Rachel & Tyler’s Monopoly-Themed Wedding Suite That Changed the Game
When two people fall in love over a board game during a pandemic, the only fitting wedding stationery is one that tells that story, beautifully, playfully, and with a little holographic magic.
Some couples have a song. Rachel and Tyler have a game. When the world asked everyone to stay home in 2020, these two decided a board game night sounded better than going out and somewhere between Boardwalk and Park Place, they fell in love. It’s one of the most genuinely sweet origin stories I’ve ever gotten to work with, and when they told me they wanted Monopoly as their wedding theme, I was immediately all in.
What makes Rachel and Tyler so special is how they approach everything: with joy, generosity, and a true spirit of collaboration. They’re the kind of clients who become something more and working on this suite felt less like a commission and more like creating something for dear friends.
The Big Idea: An Invite That Opens Like a Game Board
Brainstorming always starts with a central concept, and here it clicked quickly: the invitation itself would fold out like the Monopoly board. Not just inspired by it but structurally mimicking it. Opening the envelope would be a reveal, a little moment of delight before a single word was read.
Inside, all the wedding details lived on individual cards designed to look like the iconic cards from the game — same bold borders, same typeface energy, same sense of drama. Each card held a different piece of information: the ceremony, the reception, the RSVP. Guests didn’t just read an invite; they played with it.
Almost every single person who we invited to the wedding told us how much they loved the invites or how unique they were. They were certainly one of the biggest highlights of our wedding!
The Details That Made It Sing
To bring in all the rich colors of the game board without it feeling overwhelming, I landed on a holographic foil treatment. In neutral light it reads as a clean, refined silver. Catch the right angle and the whole palette of the game, the reds, the blues, the yellows and greens, shimmers across the surface. It was the perfect solution: all the color, none of the chaos.
Small custom illustrations of Rachel’s and Tyler’s chosen playing pieces were woven into the design as subtle, meaningful flourishes. A detail most guests might notice on second look, and smile.
The invitation was sealed with a miniature bow tie closure, a nod to the game’s beloved mascot. Tactile, charming, and completely unexpected.
The wording throughout mimicked the bold, declarative lettering of the original game. Phrases were set with that same confident energy, like instructions on a game card, but for a wedding.
The day-of stationery rounded out the world with a seating chart that extended the board game universe, tying the whole event together from the moment guests walked in to the moment they found their seat.
On Working Together
I say this with full sincerity: Rachel and Tyler are a genuine joy. Every decision was made collaboratively, every idea was met with enthusiasm and thoughtfulness. They trusted the process and brought their own warmth to every conversation. This is the kind of project that reminds me exactly why I do this work.
They are, without question, more than clients. I feel lucky to have been a small part of their story. Congratulations, Rachel & Tyler. May your marriage be filled with the same joy, laughter, and friendly competition that started it all. You two are truly, wonderfully special.
